Calling all those who Boat on Lake Minnetonka! And those living in and around Navarre!

During last night's City Council meeting, Orono's Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) Representative said that Orono doesn't need a rescue boat - because the private marinas would rescue Citizens.

If this doesn't set off alarm bells for you, it should. Are Marina employees Certified EMTs? Are Marina employees on call? How does one reach out to the various Marinas in an emergency? And which one should you call?

These and other questions arise when Mayor Walsh himself posted on 5/16/24 that the Orono Fire Department (OFD) was "fully staffed and equipped" and "ready to serve Orono residents in the Navarre area better than they ever have been taken care of...." Clearly OFD is not fully equipped nor ready to help anyone on the water.

How can a new fire service costing over a million dollars and counting not have a rescue boat? How safe is it relying on private Marinas to help out? Why didn't Mayor Walsh say something reassuring during the LMCD Rep's public comments? Is safety first or is it last?
