Who puts a parking lot in the middle of a Park?
Hackberry Park Plan was presented and approved in one City Council meeting Monday August 28, 2023. There will not be a public hearing. There has not been any information in the city’s newsletter. This has all been decided by a couple of park commissioners and the city council - less than 10 people.
As for the design - Check out that big parking lot right in the middle of the Park on the plan. More Traffic? Yes. More Noise? Yes. More Hardcover? Yes.
Who came up with this idea? An engineering firm rather than parks consultant will get paid for the development of the park. This is the same firm that designed an undersized soccer field at Bederwood making it unofficial for matches. This Hackberry design has an outfield right up along Willow Rd - wonder how many home runs will end up on the road.
The residents of the Hackberry neighborhood need to say something publicly to be heard. Your neighbors and the rest of Orono are counting on all Citizens to care about the over development of Orono’s Parks. Open, quiet green spaces add value to neighborhoods but living next to a highly active sports facilities does not.
