For 108 years the Long Lake Fire Department has answered our call, now it’s time for us to answer theirs!
Orono’s fire contract with Long Lake ends on December 31, 2025. In 2022 the City of Orono, Minnesota began to explore options with different implications for the existing fire department and the cities of City of Long Lake, Minnesota, Orono, Minnetonka Beach and Medina. We have watched the various negotiations and options presented and heard the firefighters repeatedly ask for only one thing - NOT to be separated into two different departments.
On Monday, June 12, 2023, the Orono City Council will decide on the future of fire service - based on the four options outlined in the Fire Needs Assessment on Monday, May 22, 2023 — many of which will make the Long Lake Firefighter's #1 priority impossible and does not include options for continued negotiations with the City of Long Lake.

Since day one of this process, the Long Lake firefighters’ #1 priority has been to keep this group of Firefighters together, regardless of ownership.
