Hackberry Park Slated for Development

On Monday night April 10, 2023, a fifth Orono Park will be identified for development without your input up front. During the last two years, the Orono Park Commission, City Staff and the Orono City Council have tried to develop Lowry Woods Nature Conservation Area, Bederwood Park, Summit Beach, and the Orono Golf Course.

Listed as Item number 15 on the Monday night agenda and attached below is the resolution to be passed to start a master plan without citizen input. Shouldn’t you weigh in on what happens at Hackberry Park before the city spends our money on plans? Isn’t this one of the main reasons why there is so much unrest in Orono? Citizens are not first in Orono, they are last. Over and over again.

Please ask the Orono City Council to stop spending our funds on plans without our input. Ask the City Council to survey the citizens about what we want at Hackberry Park as well as all our Parks. There should be a citywide citizen survey every 10 years according to our Comprehensive Plan and we are five years late.

Write to Orono City Council Members #MayorDennisWalsh, Council member and Parks Liaison #VictoriaSeals, Council members #RichardCrosbyII and #MattJohnson and please copy City Administrator #AdamEdwards to ensure your letters are entered into the public record Monday night:
